Major Announcement

Press Release Attention all Northern Rivers residents and visitors! We have some exciting news to share with you. We now have the opportunity to bring back your railway! After 20 months of dedicated effort to meet rigorous compliance standards, Northern Regional Railway Company (NRRC) has been granted a 12-month Minor Activities Licence between Bangalow and Yelgun by Transport Asset Holding via Transport for New South Wales and UGL. This is a monumental achievement, and we at Northern Rivers Rail Limited (NRRL) want to congratulate NRRC on their success! This licence will enable us to accurately cost the repair of the railway throughout the Byron Shire and pave the way for the return of railway services. We understand that this may be a controversial issue, but we want to make it clear that NRRL and NRRC are not against rail trails. We are, however, against the removal of railway lines, especially when they can create significant financial and social benefits for regional and rural com...

The hall is part of the Catholic Church and School Complex. Plenty of parking and a cuppa on arrival. The hall is on the right on Murwillumbah Road over the Federation Bridge from the Mullumbimby CBD. This past year the NRRL Board has worked diligently on many aspects of saving our Casino to Murwillumbah railway line with the aim of bringing rail services back to the Northern Rivers with a bike trail beside the tracks. We want to share with you, as valued members of Northern Rivers Rail, the actions we have been undertaking during this time, and where we are at this point. We also appreciate your input. We are in the process of engaging with new systems of communication so that we can share information more easily with NRRL members. During the floods, many sections o...

Urgent Press Release

Urgent! Our Local Railway is Being Destroyed Right Now! We need your help to prevent it! A bike track is not enough for our community – we need a railway line as well. We urge you to donate and help us stop the destruction of our railway. Take action now and make a donation! We do not believe the Tweed Shire Council entered proper community consultation to give the thumbs up to approve just a Bike track option. We need a Commuter Light Rail Service to service our communities and not waste a precious corridor of land to minimal use. To do this we need your help to stop the rail line rip up which has now started at the Tweed.  Northern Rivers Rail Ltd (NRRL) needs $100,000 to take legal action. This will buy time for proper community consultation and a way forward to provide multi-use of our railway corridor for the future. A generous donor has already pledged $50,000 to this cause so we need to raise another $50,000 to fight the demolition of the tracks. We are also raising funds to...
